A lot of people have the sick tendency to say Aaliyah only sold as much as she did because she died and had she not died her album wouldn't have reached gold status which is complete blasphemy, on the contrary before Aaliyah's untimely death her album already had sold 1M World Wide and was already gold within a month with sales of 862k sold in the united states making the album certified GOLD by RIAA on August 14th
People forget the promotion for the Aaliyah album had slowed down but nonetheless Aaliyah album was STILL selling 62k weekly, that's not bad for her not having a big single or promotion and everybody look by that just to deem her as a flop or to say her album wasn't doing that well, People are so simple minded they actually think she only had sold 62,000 copies due to that "Death Becomes Her" Article but that article does not state what she had sold prior to her death hence at the time of her dying she only sold 306,000. so If Aaliyah sold 862k while alive... and only sold 302k after she died.. how did she sell more..after death? The album gradually continued to sell more, but that's a given with any DECEASED artist let me refer back Aaliyah album was STILL selling 62k weekly so even if Aaliyah had not died, that next week her sales would of moved up to 924K she was already on the brink of becoming platinum furthermore with her 862k already sold before death + the 306k moved her to platinum status on august 30th bringing her US sales to 1,168,000 so how is she 'over hyped' for something she was going to achieve even if she did not die? Nobody can say what Aaliyah accomplished after death..As I sarcastically add wow her final album went 2x Platinum just like her first two albums If Aaliyah final album shot up to 10X platinum then I would UNDERSTAND cause she NEVER reached that milestone but she only reached 2x Platinum her PREVIOUS albums went 2x Platinum as well but was she dead in 1994 and 1997? I honestly hate when people make it seem like she had a FULL ERA she was only in her era FOR A MONTH.
Good points u forgot about her releasing the videos to her album would've sold more and she was supposed to do a "more than a woman" remix and release more singles from that album then finish promoting it and tour and all the movies she going to be in would've gave her new music fans
ReplyDeleteThank you for setting the record straight. Her album was definitely going to go platinum whether she died or not. Some people are just ignorant and clearly want to spread negativity. RIP Aaliyah and the other innocent people that were with her.
